GI Luminal Diseases

GI Luminal Diseases encompasses a range of disorders of GI tract starting from esophagus and involving stomach, small intestine, colon and upto anal canal

Diseases are mainly two types: (1) Organic (2) Functional

Organic diseases have a definite etiology. Presents with more distressing symptoms for short duration. Can be picked up on routine investigations. Treatment is quite specific for each disease. Examples include Peptic Ulcer Disease, Maignancy, IBD, Infections etc.

Functional diseases usually do not have definite etiology. Presents with less distressing symptoms for long duration. Detected by diagnosis of exclusion. Treatment involves lifestyle modifications and symptomatic therapy. Examples include Functional dyspesia, IBS, Defecatory Disorders etc.
